Google News 09/15: Anti-vax demonstrator assaults state Congressmen
…in a deeply primal act involving bodily fluids
Last Friday, a 43 year-old woman walked into the California state Senate building and threw what looked to be a used menstrual cup at lawmakers, dousing some of them in blood. Senator Scott Weiner, who was lucky enough not to be in the splash zone, quickly ID’ed the perpetrator as one of the anti-vax demonstrators who had gathered in a nearby gallery.
The demonstrators were protesting against SB276, a pair of bills that would greatly restrict exemptions for childhood vaccination. Anti-vax conspiracists promote the unscientific idea that vaccines, specifically the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, causes autism in or is otherwise harmful to children, and often invoke their personal liberty in arguing that they should be allowed to opt out of vaccinating. By that logic, these restrictions were considered a severe encroachment.
