Google News 09/17: The Woman’s March gets a facelift

The Woman’s March is back and better than ever. After its three original co-chairs stepped down in pseudo-disgraced fashion, a new 16-person board has finally been selected (which, some will be happy to know, doesn’t feature a single cis het male) — according to today’s Google News story.

The organization that brought us the pussy hat began in 2017 as a nation-wide protest against the inauguration of Donald Trump. Since then, it has now expanded into a social and political movement that continues to drive thousands of activists into the streets. It seems now, with this new cosmetic operation, the hope is to drive them to the polls in 2020.

The three woman who started the Woman’s March — Bob Bland, Tamika Mallory and Linda Sarsour — have faced charges of anti-Semitism for (among other things) their association with Louis Farrakhan. Earlier than that, there was a social media firestorm surrounding tweets by Democratic senator Ilhan Omar that were widely perceived as anti-Semitic.

It isn’t clear to me that these stories were anything more than social media fanaticism, but it was enough to harm the public image of liberals in some way. The three cofounders’ dissociation from the group may indicate that the Woman’s March looks to put its best…
